This is the sad tale of the loss of the schooner "Mary Caroline" off our coast in January 1861.
The Captain, Thomas Wickenden, was washed up at Marshchapel and is buried in St. Marys Churchyard, although no gravestone exists.

Although the people in the photograph are unknown it is likely that the Wares lived there at the time.

This phoograph was thought to have been taken at North Cotes beach in the early 1930s.

This photograph was taken outside Croft Cottages.
These cottages were accessed down a lane leading from Hallgarth and backed onto the houses in Littlefield Lane.
They have now been demolished.
Unfortunately the identity of the lady with the bicycle is unknown but from the clothes it is probable that the photograph was taken in the early 1900s.

Although the people in the photograpoh are unknown they could be part of the Ware family.

This photograph was taken in 1947 at Walnut Farm which was the home of his Great Aunt Alice Ware.

Millie Deamer on the left, and Beatrice Wilson working in the blackcurrant fields of Caudwell Farms.
The blackcurrants were grown on land towards the sea. Both their husbands also worked for Caudwells.

Jim worked for Caudwells Farm for many years as pigman.

William Arthur Wray

The man in this photograph is William Massingberd Osbourne.
He lost his arm in WW1 and was our village postman for many years.

William Leak - brother of Eric Leak - who died in a tractor accident in 1941.

Despite losing an arm in the First World War he still managed to deliver the post on his bicycle in all weathers.

Harold Worrell who farmed in Marshchapel for many years.
