No.4 Platoon 9th Lincolns - World War One
Alf Wright (who ran the village Fish & Chip shop) served with this platoon.
Alf died in 1950 aged 70.

His wife Beatrice is seated.
This photograph would have been taken some time
during the first world war where Alf served in France.

Lived at Eskham or many years.
Father of Norman and Doreen

Allotment Petition dated 29 November 1919.
This was discussed at a Parish Council meeting on 12 December 1919. A field in North Lane was suggested and this was eventually purchased to provide men returning from WW1 with allotments to grow their own food.
These allotments are still in use today although each allotment is larger to allow the use of mechanical equipment.

Derek P Atkinson - Royal Army
Trooper 7912200 in 1st Royal Tank Regiment, RAC. He survived 3 years as a Desert Rat in North Africa. Six weeks after arriving in France he was killed on 19 July 1944 at Caen.
Buried at Ranville British Cemetery, France, Plot V11, Row C, Grave 16.

George Sidney Atkinson.
Mr Atkinson served in two World Wars. He was a Chief Engineer in the Royal Navy and served at the Battle of Jutland and also in Madagascar.
He lived at "Campo" in Hallgarth for 25 years until the house was requisitioned by the RAF for a hospital during WW2.
He then moved to "Belmont" in Church Lane, Marshchapel. He ran the Red Garage in Marshchapel c. early 1920s.

Charlie was born in 1891 and fought in the First World War winning the Military Medal for bravery.

The Memorial Bell in St. Marys Church, Marshchapel.
This is inscribed with the names of those who lost their lives in WW1.
On the reverse is written:
AD 1919 THROUGH GIFTS FROM GRATEFUL PARISHIONERS AND FRIENDS.
Lower down: AS KNIGHTS WHEN BRITANS FAITH WAS TRIED
IN THE GREAT WAR THEY STROVE AND DIED

No photograph of the Coldstream Guards at Marshchapel has come to light.
This group of officers and senior NCOs was taken in the yard of The Talbot Inn after they pulled back to Caistor.
