This photograph is of Stuart Grantham in his Boy Scout uniform and was taken around 1957/8.
However, in the background is the old pea vining shed housing the stationary pea viner. This was used in the days when a tractor and trailer would deliver the peas from the field to be "podded" in the stationary viner - before mobile pea viners were invented.
This was situated in Mill Lane and belonged to Mossops Farm.
The pea season was always an opportunity for the local children to wait in an advantageous place (i.e. under low hanging tree branches) waiting for pea to be knocked off the trailer and then eating them.
Sometimes they were grabbed directly from the back of the trailer - a rather more dangerous pursuit.
